This may be my very longest blog post. I am officially an auntie and am so so so in love with my handsome little nephew!!
My sister went into labor late Saturday night when her water broke….she stayed at home and even baked cookies for her nurses while she labored at home until her and my brother in law, JC went to the hospital. They got to the hospital at about 7am and they checked her and she was only about 1-2cm dilated. Kelly had called me, so I got up, got ready, grabbed my camera and headed over to the hospital with my mom.
I have never photographed a birth but have always wanted to and so it was really great to be able to do this for my sister. I knew she didn’t want pictures of the actual delivery but I knew that she would love to have the laboring pictures to look back on. I showed her the pictures today and she just cried as she looked through them. Happy tears.
Labor is such a crazy thing. It’s something you almost can’t explain and everyone’s labor is so different. Kelly was a rock star during labor and pushed through the tough contractions, remembered her yoga breathing and relaxed in between when she could.
And I even got to get in there and help her through some contractions (obviously no pictures of that but it’s something I’ll never forget. She was having some really bad back labor, so during a contraction, I’d be using every muscle I had to really dig into her back to apply counter pressure for her to try and help relieve the back pain even just the slightest….it really seemed to help her and it was a very special moment for me.
After we left to try and let Kelly rest a bit, I kept snapping pictures…things Kelly wouldn’t get to see. The waiting room….the calling, the text messaging, all the people that love her and JC. And of course, some shots of all the loved ones meeting the sweet new baby!
Lucas was born on 11/27 at 6:17pm at 7lbs 3oz and 18.5 inches long. He is just as perfect as can be and we already love him so so very much!
